Location, History and Organization
  • Komatsu University, being founded in 2018 by the citizens of Komatsu City, benefits from the copious natural assets of the area spanning from Mt. Hakusan to the Sea of Japan, and exploits the heritage of a city of industry, culture, health, education and international understanding.

    Komatsu University's academic structure consists of three Faculties: Production Systems Engineering and Sciences, Health Sciences, International Communication. The former two faculties were established through the merger of institutions of Komatsu College, inaugurated in 1988, and Komatsu Nursing School, opened in 1995. These three faculties are organized into four Departments: Production Systems Engineering and Sciences, Nursing, Clinical Engineering, and International Communication.

Key Policies

Komatsu University manifests the following key policies to fulfill its core mission:

(1) To educate and foster professional specialists with responsible maturity, who would contribute to the world and community.
(2) To promote scientific innovation in the fields of production systems, health sciences, and international cultural communication on behalf of the sustainable society.
(3) To make a positive contribution to co-creating an enlivening society with citizen patronage.

According to the key policies above, Komatsu University aims to construct an academic base for creation, succession, implementation and circulation of Human Intelligence and Wisdom (HIW) in order to render the endurable development of global and local societies.

Primary Goals

Research: Creation of Human Intelligence and Wisdom (HIW)
Komatsu University continues to embark on missions to investigate the truth and create new values of intelligence and wisdom based on the freedom of imagination and spirit. The university tackles challenging and original research that is: basic, applied, cooperative, interdisciplinary, synthetic, and recognized as meaningful accomplishment by academic institutes around the world.

Education: Succession of HIW
Komatsu University provides learning opportunities and initiative to acquire fundamental knowledge that leads to an advanced professional capacity, so that a comprehensive and intensive curriculum, traversing the humanities and sciences, provides project-based learning with global and humankind vista. This ensures to develop active learners who are competent enough to deal with international and local issues.

Civil Services: Implementation of HIW
Komatsu University contributes to the implementation of its academic accomplishments and to the development of human resources by way of a cooperative network connecting the corporations, facilities and institutes of this region. By opening the midtown campus and extension-university to citizens, innovative activities and public health care support are promoted.

International Exchanges: Circulation of HIW
Komatsu University engages in communication with international institutes through collaborative research, faculties and students exchange, and conferences. Building bridges across the seas allows for the preparation of resources needed to solve various global issues.

Human Rights, Ethics, and Administration: Basics of HIW
Komatsu University honors the privilege of building a reliable and fair institute and takes all effort to further the development of the capacity of its faculties, students and staff. All constituents of the university are expected to strictly adhere to statutory and academic standards and to be decent and responsible citizens.
Komatsu University strives for sound and transparent management, by making information public, evaluating and adjusting midterm plans and goals, and being continuously self-aware of the responsibility that remitted public resources are utilized appropriately and enhance the quality of the activities of research, education, civil service, and international exchange.
